Bio
Dr. Arash Momeni is an Associate Professor of Surgery, the Ryan-Upson Scholar, Director of Clinical Outcomes Research in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University, and Co-Leader of the Breast Cancer Clinical Program at the Stanford Cancer Center.
He graduated magna cum laude from Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany, and completed residency training in Plastic and Hand Surgery at the University of Freiburg. He subsequently completed a second residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University, followed by a fellowship in Advanced Reconstructive Microsurgery at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Momeni specializes in complex reconstruction following cancer and trauma, with a clinical focus on breast, head and neck, trunk, and extremity reconstruction. He is widely recognized for pioneering approaches to postmastectomy breast reconstruction, including hybrid reconstruction that integrates autologous tissue and implant-based techniques, as well as flap neurotization strategies aimed at improving sensory recovery. His research interests further include the application of virtual reality technology for preoperative planning and surgical simulation in microsurgical reconstruction.
An internationally recognized expert in clinical outcomes research and evidence-based medicine, Dr. Momeni has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications and numerous textbook chapters in plastic surgery. He is the recipient of the 2023 American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery (ASRM) Godina Fellowship and is a frequent invited speaker at national and international meetings. He serves as Associate Editor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Annals of Plastic Surgery. He is also a member of the editorial boards of Microsurgery and the European Journal of Plastic Surgery and serves as a peer reviewer for several leading journals in the field.
